South Africa - The Gary Player Country Club

The Gary Player Country Club course is both difficult and demanding. A prominent component of South Africa’s Sun City complex, this world-class venue has been the home of the Nedbank Million Dollar Golf Challenge since 1979.

The full 6,938 meter course bordering the Pilansberg National Park is undoubtedly the toughest on the sub-continent. Like most Southern African golfing links, the course uses kikuyu grass on the tees, fairways and semi-roughs. Golfers from elsewhere have to adjust their technique to suit the surface.

The comparatively flat nature of the course can be misleading, but water hazards, cunningly sited bunkers and pins hidden away on kidney shaped greens make up for the lack of gradient. In fact, all 18 holes are to be classified as difficult.
